It’s been a very exciting month. I’ve been working on my schoolwork, which is a course on 3d modelling and computer graphics. It’s slow going, and relatively difficult (especially since I’m learning it on my own), but a great deal of fun. I also spent two weeks with my fiance (as I already mentioned), which was a mixture of good (spending time with Mickey is ALWAYS good) and bad (no real net connection for me… made it hard to get some things accomplished that I needed/wanted to do). I wouldn’t trade the time for anything, though.
Also this month, a lot of things started coming to a head for UberCon.

Well, this was an interesting day. But I’ll start a bit further back than that. I’ve spent the past week or so down in Washingon DC with Mickey. It’s been a mixture of good and bad — she’s been working every single day thus far, for long days (8am to 7pm, not including commute times), so I’ve had a lot of time by myself in her apartment. This is good because it gives me time to get some schoolwork done, but at the same time, I’ve been getting kind of moody and lonely, since I have NO interaction all day (can’t really be online very well, and I don’t know anyone in the area, let alone people who’d be available to talk or hang out), and also it means Mickey gets home tired and worn out.

Life is a process. A screwy, non-linear process, but nonetheless it is still a process. What I currently have on my plate:
—> a new semester of school, focusing on 3d computer graphics and solid geometry;
—> a loving relationship, sadly long distance, and making plans for the wedding this spring (I’ll talk more about that later);
—> moving into a place of my own, already two months there and I STILL haven’t found time to unpack
—> UberCon, a massive (and hopefully successful) gaming convention that I’m assisting with (I’m a co-founder), contacting the media for it, as well as helping where I can with advertising (I’ll write more about this later too);
—> vtprophoto.org, the website for the Vermont Professional Photographers association, has fallen under my jurisdiction recently, and a great deal of work needs to be done on that just to get it to a point where it can be easily maintained;
—> Avatar, a MUD (an online multiplayer text-based game and online community) that I’ve been an administrator on for several years, has several projects that I’m supposed to be working on (and haven’t for lack of time and energy);
—> “Everyday life”, an endeavor I was never very good at, what with a generally laid-back nature and absent-mindedness. Having a social life, as well as bill paying, grocery shopping, cooking/eating, et cetera, all would fall under this one.

Well, I’m currently down in New York, in Yonkers to be exact, lying on the couch of a friend. I arrived pretty late: between a snowstorm in VT, roaming around Hartford CT, and the rest of the drive (plus a late start), I didn’t get here til around 2.

Not mine, of course. I’m just here as a witness, a guest (and as a photographer). It is interesting watching how different people prepare for graduation. Some women dress up in flowing gowns (quite attractively, in fact). A few graduates roam in and out of the hall, getting their beloved ones situated in their allotted seats. It’s all pretty strange, a strange tension/untension. People are tense, but happy, and refuse to admit to the tension they hold. It’s not like there are any real surprises anywhere in here. The people will sit up on the stage and, one by one, be called upon, and given a diploma signifying… well, nothing. Signifying whatever that graduate WANTS it to signify. We are all simply here on our own agendas, in whatever fashion they are.

A process paper should be about the process, right? Well, here is more “process”. I spent most of today setting up my desktop in several ways: I installed a number of applications (the Adobe Design Collection, and Macromedia Studio MX, both of which had been on my laptop for about a month), updated the software I’d just installed, plus the updates to other utilities necessary to perform the updates, as well as the software I’d already had installed on it (Bryce, Painter, et cetera). On top of all that, I bought a new printer on Sunday, which I installed as well. It prints phenomenally — I plan to bring several prints with me to the residency, so you can see. If I’m particularly ambitious, I’ll even mount and frame them, and put some of them into the art show.

I’m currently writing this while I wait for Mickey’s plane to get in… hopefully, I’ll get my thoughts out before the plane arrives as then I’ll be able to just send it on Monday when I get some internet access again. Otherwise, I’ll have to try and pick up the thought where I left off, which tends to be kind of messy…

WELL! I’m currently sitting somewhere in the greater Washington DC area, waiting for the musical rendition of “Some Like It Hot”, starring Tony Curtis to start. It’s an interesting facility, an outdoor stage (we’re in lawn seats).
