New Chapters Up

I’ve posted chapters 3 and 4 of my essay. You can find them here. Chapters 5 and 6 should be up in a day or two. (It was no accident that I left the topics that largely amount to me rambling for the end… after the past 30-40 pages, my brain is tapioca.)

Please comment on them in this post, if you wish to comment.

More later!

If You’ve Been Waiting…

If you’ve been waiting for me to post more images in my gallery, sorry for the delay. I have a very large writing project I’m in the middle of, and simply don’t have the time right now to post more. Hopefully I’ll post another smattering before I pack everything up and move across the country.

In the meantime, a fellow forumer has a gallery up at his website that is well worth the time to go visit.

Okay, back to the essay! (Yes, it WILL be in the written section of the website once I’m done.)

Weeklong Absence

Some general site updates:
1. The individual entry archives for the image gallery now has a “First” and “Last” (ie, most recent) link in the navigation menu, allowing you to go to the first image uploaded and browse forward if that suits you (requested by my wife).
2. I’ll be uploading my last five prepared images shortly. My next “project” will be redacting this winter’s trip to Hawaii, and getting some images up from that.
3. I’m taking a semi-vacation this coming week. I’ll be in Seattle looking at apartments, and I’m not sure what sort of connectivity I’ll have, so no new posts from me for a whole week! (Well, unless it turns out I have reams of wireless access everywhere I go, and free time to post.)

Hope both of my readers have a great week!

Navigation Revision

Mickey brought up an interesting point last night: internal links should really be kept together.

Makes sense, really, since generally the goal of a website is to encourage exploration of their OWN site, not to have their viewers immediately scamper off to other places.

I’ve rearranged the navigation on the right side of the screen so that recent entries and archives are above the links section. The change has already spread through the rest of the site.

Visual Gallery Updated

Just a quick entry saying that I’ve updated the visual gallery… all older pictures, but ones that I’ve been meaning to put up. I’ve got a folder full of redacted images that I’m going to be finally putting up, four per day until the folder is empty.

You can either click on the “Visual Content” link in the upper right corner of the page, or click here to be taken to the gallery.

I’m planning on doing an actual post later today, by the way, after some sleep.

More Site Maintenance… Dangit

Yeah, that’s right, yet another little post annoucning alterations to the site instead of announcing (or being) new content.

I’ve removed Polymer City Chronicles from my links list, and replaced it with Ozy & Millie, a syndicatable (in other words, really really well drawn and written) webcomic suggested to me by my brother.

In other news, I installed Movable Type onto my brother’s site, Mellow Afternoon. He should have some content of some sort up soon.

My next post will be an actual update, or my name isn’t Finneas T. Squirrel… and it’s not.

MAJOR Overhaul

I finally overhauled the visual gallery to work more how I want it to. This is the beginning of a bunch of refinements to the site that I intend to make.

I now have entries organized by day, so they’ll sit side by side if your resolution can handle it (anything over 1024×768 should do marvelously). I’ve tested the changes in Camino .7 for Mac and IE for Windows 6, both render the changes properly. I also modified how I’m doing the navigation section… it’s a small change visually, but a pretty significant change under the hood. This has not yet propagated to any other page, but it will over time. If you notice something rendering funkily, just leave me a comment, and I’ll fix it.

I’d like to thank Kadyellebee for offering some advice on how to get the photoblog to act how I wanted it to (BTW, blogstyles.com has some great tutorials on this stuff).

I’ll post a real update sometime soon.. there is a lot to talk about.

New Article, Minor Alterations

I’ve posted a new article in the written portion of the site. The article can be found here.

Additionally, I modified how the visual gallery works: you can now click on the image to be taken to the larger version. The previous method was counter-intuitive.

I’m back from DC, more on that (and the wedding) in an upcoming post.

Comment Protection

A minor (but important) bit of site maintenance today… I finally got around to learning how to turn off email address links in the comments section. They were already protected from basic spambots, but were still viewable to the general public.

I’m still not allowing fully anonymous comments, but now the email address is not viewable to the public (and more importantly, to the webcrawlers out there). I’d been meaning to do this for a while, but only just recently had a chance to implement it.

If you really want a way to have people get in touch with you from a comment you leave on this site, leave a URL to your website.
